When I make this recipe with mostly white bread flour, if often rises all the way up to the top of the bread machine. It is such a good bread to eat plain, or toasted with butter or peanut butter. A few days old, it makes wonderful french toast.

7/8 c. buttermilk (or water + 3 T. buttermilk powder)
1 egg
3 c. bread flour (substitute half of the white bread flour with wheat flour for a more healthy bread)
1 t. salt
3 T. sugar
1/3 c. butter
1/4 t. baking soda
3 t. yeast
2/3 c. raisins
(you can also add 1-2 T. of ground flax seed as well)

Warm the water/buttermilk slightly. Place in bread machine pan, then add egg and butter so that they also become warm. Then place all dry ingredients in the order listed. Choose the fruit&nut setting of the bread machine. You can add the raisins at the beginning or during the kneading when it beeps if you like.
