I’ve been so busy in the last few months, and blogging went to the bottom of my to-do list. However, the other night, my husband and I started talking about what we have been doing with all of our time in 2008.

When I actually stopped to think about the things I’ve learned and accomplished this year, it turned out to be pretty encouraging! You might want to sit down and write your accomplishments down, too.  Here is my list so far:

  • My husband and I planted a small garden in our very small backyard, and began learning everything possible about gardening in small spaces.  We’ve actually eaten quite a bit of homegrown food in our first year of gardening!
  • I discovered wheat berries. We bought a grain mill, and now we grind all of our wheat flour and make all of our bread from scratch.
  • I learned how to cook dried beans.  It is not nearly as intimidating as I thought!
  • I’ve made homemade yogurt, granola, pretzels, jam, salad dressing, and other things I used to think you could only buy at a store!
  • We turned our dining room closet into a second pantry full of baking goods, beans, and rice for all of this home cooking that I’m doing.
  • I started a Meetup group in my community to meet other Attachment Parenting mamas.
  • I’ve taken a very small part-time, temporary job doing bookkeeping – to keep my mind working. 🙂
  • I’ve gone from being a mom to two babies to being Mommy to two very active and incredible toddlers!

Well, that’s my list so far.  What is on your list?

My wonderful husband is preparing for the grand opening of DonorTools, an amazing web-based software application for donation management and donor record-keeping. The official grand opening is next week, when we will attend the  2008 Greenlights Crossroads Conference for Nonprofit Excellence in Austin.  In preparation for the festivities, he ordered shirts for the whole family – see how great we look!

You can check out his DonorTools blog here!

Selah’s first birthday party was just a few weeks ago, and already it is time to plan Emma’s second birthday party! I guess this will always be a busy time of the year for birthdays!

Here is what is new with the girls:

Selah has picked up on all of the baby sign language. She can sign “more”, “milk”, “juice”, and “help”. She can climb up and down stairs, and she loves watering all of the plants in the garden and sweeping the kitchen floor. She loves all cats, and practically jumps on them as she pets them. She is part toddler and part baby… once in a while, she still wants to nurse and get snuggled by mommy!

Emma is almost 2, but she must think she is sooo much older than that! Some of her favorite sentences are “I do it”, “I want this”, and “Oh, no, it’s broken”, followed by “it needs bayees” (batteries). She can help set and clear the table, and help make cookies and salads. She loves to read and look at pictures of fishes. Her new talent is playing the keyboard and singing into the microphone at Nana’s house. Oh, and yesterday, she peddled her tricycle down the sidewalk all by herself!

And, then there’s the Daddy:

Ryan is working hard, and the girls love that they can have daddy-time throughout the day during his breaks. Emma loves to spend time with Daddy in the office, playing on the computer with her special typing program. Selah always calls out “dada” and runs into his arms, even if Ryan’s only been away for a few minutes! Ryan is our head-gardener, bug-catcher, fixer-upper, lawn-mower, and talented web programmer. Check out what he’s been working on.

I love you, my little family!

In case you missed the interview of Steven Curtis Chapman and his family on Good Morning America, you can watch it here. I thought that GMA did a good job of portraying the family, and allowing their faith to shine through. The Chapmans all did a wonderful job of speaking about their loss and describing the faith that gives them hope.

Yesterday was Ryan’s birthday!! He’s one year into what is supposed to be a very great decade – the 30’s. 🙂  Unfortunately, he started out the year with a bit of a stomach virus, so we didn’t go on a date like we had hoped.

Thankfully, we had a family birthday dinner for him on Wednesday night!  We made him several of his favorite foods (rice and beans, chicken, wine, home-grown salad, and a very special treat…some seared tuna steaks).  Here are some pictures from the evening:

Happy Birthday, husband!  I love you!!

I’m finally writing my very first post for this site! I hope that Becoming A Mama will be a fun place to share parenting stories and my passion for natural parenting – along with links to my natural products for mamas and babies. My name is Bethany, and I am the mother of the two sweetest little girls. Right now, Emma is 18 months and Selah is 7 months old. They are quite a lot of work right now, but we are settling into a bit of a routine, so I’m hoping to have some time to blog once in a while! My husband, Ryan, is wonderfully kind, caring, and supportive – and he’s also a very talented web programmer.

I’m a natural-birthing, baby-wearing, breast-feeding, cloth diapering, co-sleeping kind of mom. I also dream about becoming a midwife someday. I’m working on creating some great products for other natural mama’s, so check back often!
